The fans who had turned out in numbers at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar were in for a treat on Friday as India earned a brilliant 7-4 win against New Zealand in FIH Pro League.
Captain Harmanpreet Singh and Selvam Karthi scored two apiece while Raj Kumar Pal, Sukhjeet Singh and Jugraj Singh sounded the board once each as India made a strong comeback after their loss against Spain last week.
Although India were superlative in attack and dominated the lion’s share of the game, it didn’t start too well for the hosts as they conceded three goals in the first quarter itself. Simon Child, Sam Lane and Jake Smith found the target in the second, ninth and 14th minute respectively as India’s defence looked completely out of place.
