Two days after the body of a real estate dealer was found in a car on Mumbai-Goa highway on Friday, the police said on Sunday that it is likely that a monetary dispute led to the murder.

Also, the deceased, Sanjay Karla (44), was possibly murdered elsewhere and his body left in the car that was abandoned near Panvel, police sources claimed, adding that he was possibly shot at besides being stabbed.

Karla's body bearing stab injuries was found abandoned in an Audi on Friday.

Karla, a resident of Talegaon Dabhade town located about 120km from Mumbai, had at least two criminal cases lodged in his name, the police said, adding that this lends credence to their theory that 'enmity' could have led to the killing. He also dealt in second-hand cars.
