Mumbai: A further element of drama was injected in the proceedings with pleas of NCP's Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik to be allowed vote in the election where every vote will count being rejected. Both are behind bars in money laundering cases.
State Congress president Nana Patole and NCP minister Chhagan Bhujbal blamed Fadnavis for the "unnecessary" contest. "Fadnavis is deviating from high tradition. So far, no contests were held for the Rajya Sabha and legislative council, now it appears BJP has imposed contests on the state. We tried to persuade Fadnavis for unopposed elections, but he did not agree... it has set a bad precedent," said Bhujbal.
