New Delhi: Ever since the day Meera Mukund Dhote joined AIIMS Delhi, she dreamed of being known as India's Florence Nightingale, the English social reformer who worked for humanity and served the underprivileged and is considered the founder of modern nursing.

Florence Nightingale awardee says inspired by Mother Teresa

Dhote's dream came true this year, when she received the Florence Nightingale Award.

"I took an oath as a nurse to perform my duties as Florence Nightingale did. It was a surreal feeling when my name was announced for the award," said Dhote (60).

She dedicated the award to her family, saying, "They sacrificed a lot for me during the two years of Covid."
