Fossils To Eggshells: Pulled From 2016 Fire, A Return To New Home

Though a majority of biological specimens at National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) were destroyed in a massive fire in 2016, about 128 of them that were damaged have been retrieved by scientists at Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum of Natural History (RGRMNH) at Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan.

The damaged mounted specimens were transported to Rajasthan in May 2016 for retrieval following the devastating fire.

"Since the Union ministry of environment and forests has allotted 6.5 acres of land to NMNH opposite the science centre, the retrieved specimens will soon be brought there after the reconstruction work, which will be started soon, is completed," said the director of the institute, Naaz Rizvi.
