No clear date yet on when monsoon will take its leave

Though India Meteorological Department predicted that the monsoon would withdraw from parts of northwest India over the next three-four days, the date for withdrawal of the rain-bringing wind system from Delhi isn't confirmed yet. Met officials said they were monitoring the atmospheric conditions to figure out a probable withdrawal period. Meanwhile, rain is unlikely for the next six days.

RK Jenamani, senior scientist, IMD, said, "On the basis of water vapour, atmospheric conditions in lower level and wind conditions, a monsoon withdrawal date for the capital can be arrived at. We are analysing these factors." Delhi has already missed the normal withdrawal date for the city of September 25.

Met officials said a delay of two-three days from the normal date is not considered as late withdrawal of the monsoon. However, this year, there is likely to be a late withdrawal. In 2021, the monsoon officially ended in the capital on October 8.
