Jays offence hits new low in Detroit

DETROIT You can only tip your cap so many times.

Reese Olson and Garrett Crochet are really, really good young pitchers. Kenta Maeda is a terrific, crafty veteran. The Blue Jays had to deal with all three this week, and they all pitched very well.

But here's the thing: None of them, as tough as they are on hitters, have an ERA of 0.00, which is what they combined to put up over 17/3 innings in those three starts. Olson was the latest, shutting out the Jays on three hits into the seventh inning of the Tigers' 2-1 win here on Saturday, leaving Toronto in need of an early Sunday victory in order to sneak out of Detroit with a four-game split.
