He has been called the “Merchant of Death,” the “Poison King” and the “Chef of Death” by media, but what do we know about Mississauga man Kenneth Law?
Law, 58, has been charged with 14 counts of second-degree murder and is accused of aiding or abetting 14 people to die by suicide.
Police say more than one of Law’s alleged victims were under 18 and all were between 16 and 36. He is accused of selling products used for self-harm through online stores he personally operated.
Police accuse Law of sending at least 1,200 packages to more than 40 countries. Media reports have linked him to more than 100 deaths across three continents.
According to York Region court documents, police believe the first person to die by suicide in connection to Law was in April 2021. They believe the last person died between Feb. 7 and May 2, 2023 — the day Law was arrested.
Law intends to plead not guilty to all charges and none have been tested in court.
The charges span across the GTA and to northern Ontario. Authorities in Saskatchewan, Alberta, Quebec and B.C. have said they are also investigating possible connections to Law.
