Nikon Z 8 Firmware Update enhances Video and Autofocus features

Nikon India has recently announced a significant firmware update, version 2.0, for its Nikon Z 8 full-frame mirrorless camera.

The update introduces features and improvements aimed at enhancing both photography and videography, drawing from advancements seen in the company’s flagship Z 9 model.

Key updates include the introduction of an in-camera slow-motion video capability, allowing users to record detailed slow-motion footage directly in the camera, eliminating the need for post-processing. Additionally, the firmware introduces a dedicated bird detection mode for autofocus, improving the camera’s ability to track and focus on birds in various environments.

The update also expands the camera’s N-Log low ISO sensitivity range, allowing for enhanced dynamic range in videos. An “Auto Capture” function has been added, enabling the camera to automatically take photos or videos based on movement, distance, or subject detection, even when using DX lenses or in DX crop mode. The “Pixel Shift” feature, borrowed from the Z f model, enables the creation of high-resolution images around 180 megapixels by combining multiple shots taken with slight sensor shifts. This feature is particularly useful for product photography, where detail and colour accuracy are critical.
