But I have to be honest, when I saw the marketing ads for this phone, I wasn't sure about what to expect, let alone if the cameras will be good or not. For the simple reason that, being a foldable form factor, companies already push their boundaries with creating a display that has less crease, and then to add a top notch camera, can be challenging. But when saw this camera in the unboxing, I thought there might be something there. And my scepticism soon turned to excitement to see what the phone could do.
The Camera Set-up
The Open comes with a triple camera set up, which has pretty much become a standard in any premium phone today.
• It features an all new 48 MP Sony LYTIA sensor which features the “Pixel Stacked” image technology. This is also the first time that this has been added in any fold in the market. The camera also gives you different focal ranges to shoot from, like the Apple 15 Pro series where you can choose different focal range with a click of a button.
• There is a 64 MP telephoto lens which is also different - they’ve integrated the lens motor and barrel into a single module, which has reduced it by 12%, which has made the overall size smaller allowing them to use that real estate on the phone to do more. Being a telephoto, the lens also gives you 6x sensor zoom.
• In terms of the wideangle, the Open features a 48 MP ultrawide lens and at the front there are 2 cameras, a 20 MP and 32 MP selfie camera.
This phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor which is the latest in the industry.
In order to test the phone, we have also shown images from the 15 Pro Max for comparison purposes.
