WORLDTOUR TEAMS AGAINST UK PROS AND TOUGH HILL-TOP FINISHES COULD MAKE THIS YEAR'S RACE THE BEST YET
RACE PREVIEW TOUR OF BRITAIN

This month, some of the biggest riders in the business will hit the roads of the United Kingdom for the 18th edition of the nation’s leading bike race.

In 2021 we saw Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) take the honours in what was widely considered the best edition yet, with British star Ethan Hayter (Ineos Grenadiers) second and Julian Alaphilippe (Quick Step- Alpha Vinyl) rounding out the podium. The tough week-long race got under way in Cornwall before finishing off in Aberdeen, Scotland, with van Aert taking his fourth stage win of the week.

Typically, the race will be won by a puncheur such as 2019 winner Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck).

More high profile riders are due to appear on the start line, as well as some of domestic cycling’s biggest talents. Five WorldTour teams are confirmed. Wiv-Sungod are one of the British teams selected and Jacob and Rob Scott have brought home multiple wins for the Continental team in 2022.

Aberdeen hosts the start this year and the stage-one summit finish at Glenshee Ski Centre is a first. The riders will then snake down the length of the country with stages in North Yorkshire and Gloucestershire before a novel and exciting finale on the Isle of Wight.

Our detailed stage-by-stage guide will help you find where the racing is nearest to you, and all the best locations to catch the action.

Just seconds separated the final three riders in the overall classification in last year’s edition, taking the result right down to the wire.

Whatever happens this year, the 2022 Tour of Britain is bound to be thrilling.

STAGE 1

SUNDAY, 4 SEPTEMBER

ABERDEEN > GLENSHEE SKI CENTRE 181 KM
