SHUBMAN GILL BREAKS THE RECORD FOR THE HIGHEST T20I SCORE BY AN INDIAN
Indian opener Shubman Gill continued his extraordinary run in international cricket. In the deciding T20I of the series against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, he smashed an unbeaten 126 off 63 balls, a knock featuring 12 fours and seven sixes. With his excellent knock, he created a new record for the highest T20I score by an Indian batter. The previous record was held by Virat Kohli, who scored an unbeaten 122 against Afghanistan last year in the Asia Cup in the UAE. This was Kohli's maiden T20I ton and his first in international cricket since November 2019. Gill also became only the fifth Indian to score a hundred in all three formats of the game. Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli achieved the feat before him. Gill has the highest individual score for a batter against New Zealand in T20Is, going past Richard Levi's unbeaten 117 in Hamilton in 2012.
