Ahead of the auction, LSG had retained a total of 5 players. They kept hold of Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav, Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni. The Lucknow Super Giants made history at the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction after getting hold of Team India star Rishabh Pant for Rs. 27 crore. LSG went head over heels for Pant after having released KL Rahul, who led the side for three seasons. Pant, who wasn’t retained by the Delhi Capitals, saw a massive race unfold for him at the bidding table. LSG broke the record of Punjab Kings, who bought Shreyas Iyer for Rs. 26.75 crore at the same auction held in Jeddah.
Ahead of the auction, LSG had retained a total of 5 players. They kept hold of Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav, Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni. So, a basic structure of the team was already set as to how LSG wanted to go about things. The addition of Pant, who is set to lead the side, adds a lot of dimension. At the auction, LSG went out and signed more pacers to bolster the side. With Mohsin and Mayank already there, they further got the services of Akash Deep and used the RTM card for Avesh Khan. Having a solid core of Indian bowlers will allow LSG to field foreign specialists as batters. The likes of David Miller, Aidan Markram and Mitchell Marsh were all scooped up. LSG have a quality side at their disposal and they will hope to do well under the leadership of Pant.
Here we decode the strengths, weaknesses and key takeaways from the squad of LSG.
