Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) purchased 18 players at the WPL auction in Mumbai last month. They bought the first-ever player in the inaugural WPL auction, picking India Women’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana for Rs 3.4 crore. Subsequently, she was named captain of the franchise as well. RCB’s other impressive purchases were explosive young keeper-batter Richa Ghosh for Rs 1.9 crore and in-form Indian medium pacer Renuka Singh for Rs 1.5 crore. Looking at their prominent foreign buys, they picked Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry at Rs 1.7 crore. RCB were also lucky as New Zealand Sophie Devine was sold to them for a mere Rs 50 lakh. Later, they also purchased England captain Heather Knight and Australian pacer Megan Schutt for Rs 40 lakh each and South African all-rounder Dane van Niekerk for Rs 30 lakh.
