NO chances had been taken with TYSON MAGOO‘s mark, but the son of Westerner still appeared to run more or less up to that initial perch of 98 in finishing a near-6l third here, impressing in how he sustained his effort despite a refusal to settle early and a bump five from home. This most testing 2m4f tried to date appeared a good fit, in as much as he didn’t find things happening too quickly for him at an inopportune moment as had particularly been the case at Catterick twice previously, and Joel Parkinson and Sue Smith need not waste any time in future sending him back to a sharp track, at least for as long as he’s kept to an intermediate trip. There’s no reason to assume the previous Smith modus operandum of not sending out very many runners during high summer will change under the new joint trainership model at High Eldwick, but this still lightly tried five-year-old appeals as one who could alight upon a similar contest for them around Hexham or back here before stumps are drawn until the autumn.
