IT is not long until the turf flat season starts with the two-day Lincoln meeting at Doncaster starting on March 23 and just six days later the All-Weather Championships reach their conclusion.
Finals Day at Newcastle and the Vase meeting at Lingfield provide a thrilling climax..
Three horses have five wins to their names so far during the AW season.
The Caltonian has had a couple of chances to make it six but looks under the grip of the handicapper, Bonito Cavalo has a perfect record with five wins from five races, all coming at Newcastle since January and The Craftymaster has done his winning at Wolverhampton and Lingfield.
Bonito Cavalo and The Craftymaster both appear to still be ahead of the handicapper, and they should be adding to their five wins before too long.
A further eight horses have recorded four wins, Beauzon and Bobby Joe Leg both winning their last four races and they could easily have added to their tally since this was written.
The second of two Trials Day fixtures is due to take place at Lingfield on March 1 and there should be plenty of clues for Good Friday at that meeting. There have however been plenty of races recently which could have bearing on Finals Day.
Three-Year-Old
Although there were only five runners for a Class 2 handicap over 6f at Lingfield on February 4, three of the runners had met on the first Trials Day meeting at Newcastle on January 1st, Blue Prince won that day, G’Day Mate was ninth and Brave Empire, sent off favourite, only 10.
