Barry, 38, was named as assistant to new England manager Thomas Tuchel this week, having also worked with the German at Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
But 19 years ago he was a teenage midfielder cutting his teeth at Accrington Stanley without a single professional appearance to his name.
âI remember his first game, a pre-season friendly in Scotland,â recalls Coleman, who alongside Jimmy Bell and Paul Cook steered Accy to the Conference title that season.
âWeâd limped to a 2-1 win and Anthony stood up in the dressing room and gave his opinion about what we should have done. Bear in mind heâs about 19 at this point, and we had a very experienced squad.
âDonât get me wrong â he quickly got put in his place. But the fact he had the guts to stand up and say his piece about the game said a lot. He wasnât afraid of anyone.â
