CONOR: WE CAN HIT THE HEIGHTS

IT'S been a rollercoaster ride for Gillingham so far this season, but defender Conor Masterson is convinced there are more highs than lows to come in the new year.

Under new boss Mark Bonner, the Gills roared out of the blocks and led the way in League Two at the end of September It looked like the Kent club were going all out to make a promotion push, but then the wheels fell off.

A horror run of one win in nine saw Gillingham becalmed in mid-table. Successive 1-0 wins against Salford (home) and MK Dons (away) then lifted the spirits before a 2-2 draw with Cheltenham and 2-0 Boxing Day reverse at Colchester stalled their momentum.

It meant the Gills headed into the weekend in 13th place, though they were just four points off the play-offs and six away from automatic promotion given the tightness of the division.

Frustrating

Looking back on that dodgy spell, Irish centre-back Masterson admitted: "It was hugely frustrating and it shouldn't have happened. We had a few injuries and when things like that happen, you can lose your way a bit.
