OVER the course of this summer, I wrote and rewrote my managerial CV several times. I’m determined not to stop managing while I’ve got so much passion, energy and know-how to give to players and to a club.

'Inspiration' Steve has shown the way

However, I was unsure whether to describe myself as a director of football, a manager or a head coach? Such is the change to the business of football that no two clubs work in the same way or have the same expectation of the man who leads their first team.

How you put yourself across will inevitably limit your opportunities but in the end you have to just be straightforward.

What I felt sure of, though, was that my 400-plus wins in the dugout are evidence that I can find, train and integrate football players into a winning team. I felt sure that my record of players sold is evidence that I can nurture talent and develop talent into a better version of itself. What I felt sure of is that I’ve won enough promotions, big cup-ties and trophies to warrant my next chance to achieve.
