TIM Flowers revealed how his shock, breakneck switch to Alvechurch came as much a surprise to him as the fans he left behind.
Local rivals Redditch United announced on Saturday, November 9 – the morning of a home match against Stamford – that the Premier League-winning goalkeeper had “decided to step down with immediate effect following an approach from another club”.
It added the Reds had been “made aware that Tim would not be returning late yesterday”, prompting criticism from the Valley Stadium faithful amid speculation that he would be heading to Church – a club in the same division located just four miles up the road.
A couple of hours later, United announced that Flowers would be replaced by his predecessor Matt Clarke whose successful four-year tenure at the club ended in May.
