GRAHAM GIVES UNITED BOUNCE

NEW Boston United manager Graham Coughlan ended the Pilgrims’ 11-match winless run with his first attempt, at the expense of fellow survival fighters Braintree Town.

“The harder you work the luckier you get; we got a couple of bits and pieces of luck today,” confessed Coughlan, who was quick to add: “I thought we were outstanding. It is about getting the basics right and we’ll be OK, we did today.”

Boston chose to kick with the wind first, and the blustery conditions seemed to flummox the Iron keeper at either end of the opening half. Cameron Green advanced from left-back to blast a swirling shot straight through Lucas Covolan after just 44 seconds, giving Coughlan a dream start.

On the front foot, United saw a series of opportunities go begging. Debutant Lennon Wheeldon prodded wide, while Sam Osborne and Jacob Hazel both had efforts cleared off the line in a 33rd minute scramble.
