And the England boss would have been impressed by Dombrandt’s hat-trick which gave the Londoners lift off in their bid to rule Europe.

Wing Cadan Murley also gave Borthwick a nudge in his direction for the Six Nations with a hat-trick on a night when Quins were in cruise control.

Quins had a firm hand on the tiller as they carved out a 19-6 lead despite failing to really spark for the majority of the first half.

Fly-half Jurie Matthee’s two penalties inside the opening eight minutes gave Stormers the beginning they were looking for on foreign soil. And they came courtesy of Quins poor discipline at the breakdown and an off-side.
