Eat To Lower Your Breast Cancer Risk

Increase Fibre

Pre-menopausal women who eat a high fibre diet are almost a fifth less likely to develop breast cancer. It's thought fibre reduces circulating oestrogen and insulin levels that can help fuel cell changes. While the recommended daily intake for women is 25 grams, most of us only manage about 17 grams. Fibre-rich foods include bananas, apples, pears, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, spinach, cabbage, lentils, oats, bran cereal and beans.

There's no single 'anti-cancer food'," explains nutritionist and author Conner Middelmann (https://modernmediterranean.com/). While some contain more cancer-protective nutrients than others, such as blueberries and broccoli, her advice is to focus on eating a wide range of seasonal, unprocessed foods. She advocates a Mediterranean diet as it nourishes not only your immune system but also every other cell in your body, and has been found to lower the risk of cancer.
