School's out for summer in the UK and like children throughout the country, Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge's kids will be looking forward to fun-filled holidays.
But for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, there's more significance to their upcoming weeks off than simply getting a break away from school and pre-school. It's a critical time for the youngsters to enjoy an ordinary life away from the spotlight after a few months of being in the public eye more than they ever previously have, particularly for future king George.
The children were centre stage for several of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June, including the concert at Buckingham Palace, and George has also made first-time appearances at public events like Wimbledon. It's meant a lot of attention on the trio, whose parents usually keep them out of the limelight as much as possible.
Kate and William, both 40, have been trying to ease them into their public roles, a small bit at a time, says royal commentator Victoria Arbiter. "Their official public appearances have been carefully orchestrated. From standing on the balcony at Buckingham Palace to attending a pantomime and helping their father kick off a half-marathon, they have experienced a small taste of public life. It's helping them to prepare for what's to come, but their parents are careful not to overdo it."
