A wedding is cause for celebration, and the McDermotts also embrace the chaos that ensues.
PAT MCDERMOTT
Mother of the groom

Are you sitting comfortably, dear reader? I have news. Ruff Red is getting married! In October! In New York City!

I know what you're thinking. Ruff Red is a little, red-headed boy who is way too young to get married!

"He's older than we were when we got married," said the MOTH (Man of the House). "I remember it well. We were so broke we drove around the block, stayed in the first motel we saw, and went back to work on Monday."

"Yes, I remember it too," I muttered. "How much time do we have to send invitations and make travel plans?"

"Mum!" screeched our four other children in chorus. "He's a grown man. Rebecca is gorgeous and smart. They'll work it out."

"But what about the venue? And the menu?" I ask anxiously.
