The Story So Far
Years ago, CHRISSIE FORSYTH fell in love with BRUCE MCALLISTER while on holiday on the east coast of Scotland. The couple later lost contact, and Chrissie eventually married and had a son, JONATHAN.
Now a widow, Chrissie has returned to the small fishing village with Jonathan, but is unsure what brought her back here. She's reconnected with Bruce, who runs the store, and the pair share a kiss one evening.
Bruce's daughter, MEGAN, works part time as an illustrator of children's books, and spends the rest of her time upon her grandfather's old boat.
After Megan's engine fails, Jonathan steps in to mend it, and the pair become friends. He asks to come out on the Endurance with her, and Megan agrees.
Bruce takes Chrissie to volunteer at a food bank, introducing her to IZZY, the widow who runs it. Chrissie finds the work difficult but fulfilling.
Jonathan and Megan go out in rough conditions in the old crabber.
When a storm blows up, Megan turns for home, then sees a distress flare from one of the other Petershaven crabbers ...
THE holiday cottage was certainly living up to its name, the Four Winds.
All morning, wind howled round its southern gable end, snatching the kitchen door from your hands if you opened it.
Then, suddenly, it swung 90 degrees to the east, screaming and hurling itself against the front windows of the cottage.
This was nothing like the gales Chrissie experienced down in Surrey, where the full force of the wind was usually blocked by solid miles of expensive housing, trees and bushes.
This North Sea storm was nature in the raw, and it scared her.
She moved restlessly around the cottage, unable to settle to anything.
To make matters worse, Jonathan hadn't come back from his early start.
