The summers have brought a leggero of sunshine. With that I Kritika Juneja would like to quote here one of my favorite poets, "That who illuminates even the darkest corners of our souls, reminding us of the beauty that exists within."
During this warm and lovely time of the year, it is perfect to make your home a relaxing refuge by creating a comfortable and enjoyable living space. For someone like me, the beautiful and refreshing garden area covered with colourful flowers, aromatic herbs, and edible plants would be a wonderful place to relax and unwind in the cool summer evenings. 
Add colorful throw pillows and blankets in cheerful patterns to add a touch of summer flair. With this issue, we are highlighting various architects, artists and designers while also raising a toast to the EFTA-India Free Trade agreement with my dear friend, Guðni Bragason, Ambassador of Iceland to India.
In this issue, we present some of the most outstanding picks for the season from a variety of architects, including KN Associates, Ds2 Architecture, Bhutha earthern architecture studio, Lijo Reny Architects, Architecture Seed, Kirti Dodeja, Sklimsab Architects, Skyline Planners, Sparc Design, The Vrindavan Project, Karan Grover and Associates. As the legendary architect, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe once quoted, "We should attempt to bring, nature, houses and human beings together in a higher unity." Focusing on this, our issue this month is more about ‘Living with Nature.’ Nature brings serendipity to a lifestyle. And when it is amalgamated with elegance and flamboyance, it creates an arena of comfortable living. Need be a farmhouse or a residence or even an office, the common thread between all is a congenial space. The artistic sensibilities, the functional notions, and the history of the space play a combined role in the effort of space design.

In this issue, we were looking beyond sartorial influencers, to applaud those whose work and ideas are creating different experiences. We sourced the genre of design, lifestyle, wellness, and décor to find people working exponentially towards creating a better living. Our collection ranges from a weekend gateway from the hustle of urban life to connect or reclaim the spirits of nature and enjoy the landscape surrounded by the chirping of birds. Ar. Jinal Patel of VPA brings to life this pursuit for leisure for the clients to relax and be close to nature. Whereas, Ar. Hiren Patel of HPA, who promotes outdoor living, has created an agglomeration of contemporary built form into an environmental setting. 'Shukla Villa' home in the countryside by Ar. Yatin Pandya. Focusing mainly on the experiential journey of the residents, this beautiful 'American suburban living' inspired home, is sitting amidst the green-scape.

As we enter the last quarter of the year 2020, its time to reflect amidst a Pandemic, which has slowed down the world, in good and bad ways. The climate clock has been unveiled by artists Gan Golan and Andrew Boyd to warn us about the irreversible climate emergency. What lies ahead can be only anticipated, but what has been done should be contemplated by each one of us. Here I am, anticipating and contemplating aloud, as the architecture and construction industry expects a major shift. 
It’s time for the designers to come forward with a way ahead, amidst the multi-faceted changes that are happening all around. As we expect a decline in tourism, a demand in experiential spaces has increased in domestic and work environments. 
While the new apple store that anchors itself in the bustling Central World Square, Thailand, serves as future aspirations, in the minds of an everyday man; the V&A museum serves as wisdom from the past, reminding us of our intellectual ambitions. Although the future is uncertain, the social spaces are being redefined, even in the corporate world. For instance, Chennai One has been designed to enhance the nodes of chance encounters within the I.T. Park. 
Work-from-home culture is growing rapidly, with a demand for larger homes that provide private spaces to individual members of the family. Who knows, one day we will see families spending most of their time in farmhouses by a lake, like in the case of Shardul Patil designed private house, away from the chaos of a city. Perhaps, a modern take on traditional haveli, punctuated with bright colored walls and giant volumes, as designed by Vora Architects. Or, a house made of varied materials and textures in a symphony that stands out in a dense residential setting in Ahmedabad as much as the Urban Frame House. Or, an attempt to build a house with zero maintenance costs, like the Todd Residence. Last, it could be all but a humble space with a responsive design as Arham, designed by Dipen Gada.

Design & construction scenario has been progressing at an unprecedented pace at the global level.  This past decade has especially witnessed some of the most fluid forms and challenging structural resolutions. The awe-inspiring forms of the shells are complimented by the bespoke art installations and interior elements that are pushing the boundaries of design to provide unfathomable user experiences. It wouldn’t be incorrect to say that India is finally catching up with the world when it comes to product design, architecture, interiors, landscape or any of the myriad aspects of the construction industry. As a matter of fact, our industry has progressed and become so imaginative that even as I write it feels crude to use an umbrella term “construction” to encompass works of the professionals who are rather artists working in their respective domains of expertise. 
I would take the liberty of speaking on behalf of my magazine as well as everyone related to the Media & publishing industry, ‘we are enjoying the surge of innovation as much as the professionals thinking absolutely out of the box’, for introducing such concepts and processes is a challenge just as much! Interior Exterior in particular constantly longs to cover the newest, most innovative and utilitarian works that defy the existing norms of design, material and experience. 
However, the gap between the progress at the international scale and that in India is still immense. It is in part because of the fact that some of the modern most materials, software, technology and processes are still known to a handful in the Indian community of professionals. The other contributing factors may be the lack of ways through which to educate the masses or disseminate the information on the rapidly changing landscape of the design production. No longer do we appreciate the ‘product’ alone; we are developing the sensibilities to acknowledge the process which backs the new age inventions.
