Airshow Extravaganza.  2018 Wings Over South Texas Airshow—we cover the airshow extraordinaire held at NAS Kingsville. See the airshow as we did—front and center row in 360-degree HD video. Flight instructors! Our staff instructor pilot shows why teaching student pilots to fly airport-to-airport mitigates in-flight emergency risk AND is economical. While there are pilots who fly looking for the $100 hamburger, here in Texas it’s BBQ that’s king! We do a little I-Fly-Roads flying in Central Texas and find two places where the smoked meats and sides are “Good Enough to Make a Pilot Land!”  For professional drone flyers in the United States, we look at how a Part 107 remote pilot maintains their 24-month currency. Flight Training Refresher.  We kick off the new year by interviewing Vashon Aircraft staff on the new Ranger 7 very light sport aircraft. Next, our staff flight instructor offers advice to flight instructors preparing for another season of good flying weather and new students by looking at refueling procedures and bird strike avoidance. We examine the issue of unruly passengers with an article on cabin combat and practical inflight passenger restraint. Finally, VVIP expert flight attendant and columnist Aleca King provides insights into the value of periodic safety refresher training. Virtual Reality Air Show!  In this issue, we take one small step forward in the magazine and one giant leap for our readers by introducing virtual reality and 360-degree photography to our pages. We dive into the 2017 Joint Base San Antonio Air Show and Open House with our VR360 cameras. Readers can see what it is like to sit in the cockpit of vintage fighters and modern military transports. We’ve also created a couple of videos of the air show so you can experience the air show—just click and watch.
