We have seen it all.
And we have seen it for a lot of years. The book (1946) called ‘X-ray the city ! The density....’ explains the basics of urban planning, with a title that would still resonate with students of Urban Planning and Urban Design today.
How many times have we not seen the city-density graphs ? On the Y-axis the urban population density and on the X-axis the transport related energy consumption. Houston and Los Angeles are always problematic, while Singapore and Hong Kong duly provide hope. How much money is spent on visiting these cities by ‘delegates and representatives’ ? Without however fully understanding the social, cultural, historic, political, physical and ecological conditions that led to the high density, often end up in bizarre copy-paste examples.
