The BHS has released shocking statistics after a horse was seriously injured when he was spooked by a helicopter
A RIDER has been killed, more than 50 horses injured and four have died after being spooked by low-flying aircraft in the past seven years.
Since 2010, 289 horse-related low-flying incidents have been reported to the British Horse Society (BHS), including a fatal accident involving Heather Bell in June 2003. Mrs Bell fell from her daughter’s horse Midget after he was spooked by a low-flying military helicopter. She suffered head injuries and died a few hours after the fall.
The BHS revealed these statistics after a horse in Cornwall suffered a life-threatening injury when a helicopter flew ”very low” over his field. The accident was on 14 May, a month after three horses died after low-flying jets passed over the county (see box).

Rider Denies Doping After Team Loses Olympic Placing - Tine Magnus and the Belgian team said they do not know the source of the drug that caused the positive test
Olympic eventer Tine Magnus has denied ever doping after her Paris ride Dia Van Het Lichterveld Z gave a positive test at the Games. This means the Belgian team, which came fourth, has been disqualified. On 4 September, the FEI said the 10-year-old mare, owned by Kris van Vaerenbergh, tested positive for trazodone, which is listed as an antidepressant on the FEI's prohibited substances list.
