Having raised thousands for charity, and hunted for 15 consecutive seasons, Murphy maintains hero status.
KNOWN affectionately as “the lager lout”, the Irish draught/thoroughbred gelding Murphy loves nothing more than a good laugh, whether that’s out hunting or raising money for charity.
His owner, former Lamerton chairman Mike Bickell, has partnered the 20-something-year-old since the start of the millennium. Between them, they have covered over 3,000 miles during sponsored rides, and 3,000 miles hunting with over 30 packs, from Yorkshire to Land’s End.
Murphy’s roles have included following hounds as the Lamerton chairman’s horse, parading hounds at county shows, whipping-in for various hunts the width and breadth of the country, stewarding at point-to-points, giving safe first-time hunting days to novices and most notably, helping Mike raise an astonishing amount of money for charity.
