SURYA, A WELLNESS BRAND, UNVEILS ITS FLAGSHIP AYURVEDIC SPA AT THE SANTA MONICA PROPER HOTEL, WITH INTERIORS BY AMERICAN CELEBRITY DESIGNER KELLY WEARSTLER
PALLAVI MEHRA & RITUPRIYA BASU
MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE

One of the first things that catches your eye at Surya Spa’s new flagship at the Santa Monica Proper hotel are the gently undulating walls, lined with a collage of custom Zellige tiles made in Morocco. The palette of the tiles, which ranges from dusty browns to a rich ochre, sets the mood for the 3,000-square foot spa, imagined by celebrity interior designer Kelly Wearstler. A carefully considered play of materials and textures—from gleaming wooden shelves, ceramic tabletops to a red, fuzzy sofa in a corner office—creates an earthy, grounded space for founder Martha Soffer’s meditative oil treatments and four-handed massages.
