It’s easy to forget that this home is in the heart of hot and humid Chennai. Down a little cul-de-sac off a busy thoroughfare, the house sits between two other buildings amidst a thicket of trees. You’d imagine it would be dingy—instead, it feels almost radiant. In part, this is due to the bright Chennai sun that is ingeniously channelled into the space, but the airiness and colour are also courtesy its designer Soumya Keshavan and architect Fabian Ostner.
“I think Kiki had already built this house in her head,” says homeowner Dr. Sai Satish, addressing his spouse, Kritika, by the diminutive she is better known by. “My job was to turn into reality what appealed to her.” Ever the supportive spouse, in 2011, Sai decided to get in touch with designer Soumya Keshavan, whose Chennai-based store Souk his wife was a regular at.
