This house by architect Verendra Wakhloo of Matra Architects, with interiors by Ashiesh Shah, is situated on the picturesque Fateh Sagar lake in Udaipur. This corner of the library—which sits at one end of the long living room—captures the spectacular views of the lake and the surrounding hills, framed by floor-to-ceiling plate-glass windows.
In the wood-panelled library, a Surendran Nair painting, titled Two Owls on One Roof, hangs between shelves of pale American oak. In contrast, a powder blue sofa and armchairs from Mumbai-based studio Yasanche curve around a large marble table by Frozen Music. The custom-designed light fixture above is by Sailesh Singh Rajput. Facing page: At one end of the living room, Gunjan Gupta’s Bori sofa overlooks a panoramic landscape of garden terraces and Fateh Sagar. An elaborate lighting fixture, also designed by Rajput and comprising bronze-finished cloud shapes, floats above.
Swing seats in an inner courtyard look out on a picture-postcard view of the lawn and temple studded lake ringed by the Aravalli Range. Designed by Yasanche, the swings and cushions are covered in outdoor fabrics by Ralph Lauren.
