Travel along the pristine coastline of South Goa, and you’ll find it dotted with luxurious 5-star resorts. Located on the Raj Baga beach in Canacona is The LaLit’s sprawling Goa outpost, designed for Bharat Hotels Ltd. Nestled at the confluence of the Talpone River and bordered by the glorious Sahyadri Range of the Western Ghats, the resort is replete with picturesque views. It also boasts a kilometre-long exclusive beachfront along the Arabian Sea. Keeping the natural grace of the place in mind, the architects wanted to create a design that would interfere the least with the surroundings.
Goa is one of the few states in the country to have successfully conserved its cultural and architectural identities. Another stronghold in the proposal was thus, to follow a Baroque-Portuguese style of design—in an endeavour to preserve the urban character of the area, whilst retaining an ecological balance. The design was also kept non-restrictive, which has allowed for the landscape, over the years, to seamlessly grow and compliment the design language of the built.
