Affording Your Own Street Rod

Our tech series is aimed at making a project viable for the home based rodder

The response to my project Model A bucket re-creation has been very pleasing. Most comment that they like the down-to-earth approach to building such a project in a home workshop, because that fits the situation for a large portion of our readers. Everyone would love to have the finance, ability and extensive range of tools required to build a high end vehicle, but for most, the reality is, make do with what you have in your own home workshop.

I don’t begrudge anyone having the ability to go high end with a project, nor the workshops that have been established to cater for their needs. Not everyone has the manual skills to build their own project car, yet there is no reason for them not to participate if they can afford to pay someone with those skills to carry out the great majority of the work for them. It irks me to hear people comment at events “...but he or she didn’t build it themselves, they paid such and such...” Who cares? It’s another street rod on the road. If we all built to the same style and standard of finish this would indeed be a boring hobby.
