It all cost too much and he did it all himself, but after 49 years of active hot rodding, Bruce Sanders wouldn’t have it any other way. His ’34 Ford coupe project started out way back in 2005 with the purchase of a stock chassis from Kevin Bird with the intention of building a coupe, but he couldn’t track down a good original steel body, so in 2017 he ordered a C&W fiberglass reproduction version and set to work.

Experience gained from a host of previous projects means Bruce was able to power through the ’34 coupe project in less than two years, quite an achievement in this modern age with all of its layers of bureaucracy that life (and registering street rods) entails. Two Model A Tudors, a ’36 coupe, ’35 sedan, ’29 A coupe. ’30 A coupe, ’28 roadster pickup and a ’40 sedan – all Fords, plus a ’34 Chev sedan is quite a list of completed projects that provided that rod building experience, and being retired means he was able to devote plenty of time to the coupe.
