McGregors' Model As

Having already restored a ’28 Model A Tudor, Robert McGregor had a head start on his ’30 Model A Tudor street rod version that you see featured here. An outlay of $5000.00 back in 2007 gave Robert the start he needed on this project with the delivery of a flat-pack car in a 6x4 trailer – the body had been cut up with an oxy-acetylene torch!

The rolling basis for the car came from C&W in the form of a stage 3 chassis with modifications at the rear to allow it to run a ’32 Ford-style fuel tank. Providing the motive power is a 302 Ford engine that Robert purchased as an unknown quantity from the Trading Post well before he started on the project. He left the engine undetailed because he wasn’t sure what its operating condition was like, but it turns out he could have dressed it up some more as it hasn’t missed a beat. The 302 does use F100 exhaust manifolds that empty into a 2-1/2 inch system and its cooled by a Walker radiator with an electric fan.

Attached to the back of the Windsor is a C4 automatic transmission that is engaged using a Lokar shifter. The driveshaft connects it to a nine-inch rear end that runs 3.55:1 gears and is suspended by coil-over shock absorbers. The diff retains its original Ford drum brakes that are activated by an XB Falcon master cylinder in conjunction with HQ Holden front calipers that clamp Ford vented rotors. A four-bar system retains the four-inch dropped axle equipped front suspension.
