Our German counterparts have to jump through some rather tight compliancy hoops, thanks to their TUV regulations – rules that make our annual MoT seem rather mundane. Don’t assume, though, that this makes building a custom bike in Germany an impossibility, as that’s far from the case – the fact that Chopper Club Germany exists is a good illustration of that.

Peter, the Vice President of CCG, had got himself a big box of bits containing several large parts of a Kawasaki Z750 twin that he wanted to build into a useable, contemporary custom bike. The frame’d come from AME Choppers, probably the first company in Germany to build choppers and supply custom parts to the public (and they’re still in operation today), and while it was based around the original Kawasaki frame, the paperwork that came with it showed that it was officially done to TUV standards – something that’s not attainable by a person building a frame in his own shed or garage. This meant it was ideal for the custom project he envisaged.

It was actually over five years ago that he got the project parts, and he’d realised he wasn’t going to be in a position to build it up himself, so he asked one of his club brothers over here in the UK if he could build it for him. The chap in question, Grub from NCC Cambs, will be well known to regular BSH readers, having had numerous feature bikes within these pages. Peter showed Grub a stack of pics of bikes that he liked and, basically, left him to get on with it!
