Honda Prelude
Classic Car Buyer|February 15,2017

A brand whose name has long been synonymous with engineering excellence, reliability and quality build, Honda has a back-catalogue that’s filled with cars that are as satisfying on an intellectual level as they are to drive.

James Howe
Honda Prelude

Originally introduced in the late ’Seventies and produced across four generations through to the early ’Noughties, the Prelude lived up to the brand’s reputation, offering a sensible and unpretentious take on the sporting coupé that somehow managed to fill an niche all of its own, especially from the ’Eighties onwards. Front-wheel drive, free-revving four-cylinder engines, excellent aerodynamics and four-wheel steering all helped to make the Prelude a technologically advanced alternative to its more established and traditional rivals.

The example featured here is a third generation model, first registered in 1988 and family-owned from new. In its basic two-litre EX trim, the car is powered by a carburettor-fed, 12-valve single overhead-cam four-cylinder, which by Honda standards has barely been run in after just 53,000 miles. It’s clear from the outset that this car has lead a privileged life at the hands of its fastidious husband and wife owners over those few thousand miles too.

MG Display Controversy

A classic vehicle insurer met with a mixed response at the Classic Motor Show when its display stand depicted a 1998 MGF apparently crushed by a WW2 Hellcat tank. But was this a sacrilegious act against a classic car, or an inspired promotional display?
