People who don’t wear hearing protection are either unaware of the benefits, or they are the anti-earplug brigade who will have you believe that trucks are going to drive over the top of you because you’ve dared to wear earplugs.
I’ve been a fan of Earmolds since I bought my first pair of Speaker Wires about 12 or 13 years ago. They weren’t cheap but they were immediately comfortable. In conjunction with a generic-brand MP3 player, I could ride and actually hear the music I was listening to.
That first pair were lost somewhere down the Hume Highway between Marulan and Yass. I’d taken them out when we stopped for a quick splash and dash, jammed them in the pocket of my jacket and promptly forgot to zip the pocket up before we roared off. That set was soon replaced at one of the 586 motorcycle shows supported annually by Aaron and Julie from Earmold Australia. They’re still working as well as the day they were supplied and have outlasted about four generations of iPhone.
Medical-grade silicone may have other uses but when used in Insta Mold earplugs, it reduces background noise without completely blocking it. The process is quick, simple and painless. Sit in the chair and Aaron or one of his suitably trained and qualified offsiders has a look in your ears. If your ears are clean and free of prizewinning nuggets, they insert a foam block in each earhole before injecting the silicone. Sit still for about 10 minutes to give the silicone a chance to cure. The silicone moulds are then popped out and you are told to bugger off while they are given a trim and coated with a layer of shiny silicone. Job done, your Earmold earplugs are ready to go.
