All Eyes on Yokohama for the 25th Annual Mooneyes Hot Rod & Custom Show.
Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus have always been known as “The Greatest Show on Earth” but I don’t think they’ve seen the Yokohama Hot Rod and Custom Show, held on the first Sunday in December in Yokohama, Japan.
The show is the brain-child of Shige Sugauma, the owner of the Mooneyes brand and the 2016 Show was his 25th anniversary celebration. And WOW, what an event! There were 700-plus motorcycles, 300-plus cars/hotrods, 310 trade stands, 50 pinstripers … you get the picture – it was huge!
Each year Shige also brings over eight of the USA’s best custom bike builders with their bikes as special guests for the 16,000 or so attendees.
The quality of this stuff is absolutely top shelf. The Japanese truly know how to take their custom culture to the next level. Not to mention the fact that Japan itself is a fantastic place to visit. Clean and safe, easy to explore, very friendly and food to die for.
I must have been bitten by some crazy bug over there as I have been back to the show every year since 2012 and this year we bought along six fantastic Australian-built bikes. I’ve been in the motorcycle industry since 2006 and run the Motorcycle Dept at VPW Australia and I saw this as a great opportunity to shine the light on the immense talent we have in this country.
