The auctions and general demand for older muscle cars have inflated the value of everything American made, rear-wheel drive, and more than 40 years old. You know what I mean: every schmoe with a ’73 Pontiac Catalina four-door says “I know what I’ve got,” and expects $5,000 for it because “it has the Trans Am engine.” Right? But that’s not what I’m addressing here. This is a list of ten year/make/model categories that are fetching top dollars, and that, IMO, have far exceeded their value. Here they are, from least offensive to most.
10) Datsun 510s: You may be surprised to see a Japanese car on the list, but I’ve included them just so I can say that I think it’s cool that classic import cars have been on a surge. The Datsun 240Z and its offspring have been inflating in interest and value for decades, but my mind is blown by today‘s prices on 510s because those were the hand-me-downs and throw-away mom cars of my youth. To see them go for $25,000 is stunning. It’s driving up the prices on virtually all the pre-’80ish imports.
