Jaguar’s chief engineer for vehicle integrity talks to us about his long career at the company, what it takes to develop a car, and his favourite model
IT’S THE most exciting time,” says Mike Cross, Jaguar’s chief test driver, about his 33 years with the company. “Back when I started, we didn’t have any product launches, but now we have them every couple of months,” he explains. To put that into perspective, Mike started at Jaguar in 1984 when the company hadn’t yet launched the XJ40.
“I started in ride and handling but, as my career progressed, I’ve taken on more and more of the car.” Today, as JLR’s chief engineer for vehicle integrity, his job is to guide the development of new cars through all the attributes the customer will interact with.
