On the long winding Indian highways, the BharatBenz trucks that were part of the BharatKaBenz Yatra convoy have touched many lives and left lasting impressions on them. They did on mine too.
In its more than 8,000 km travel, I had the opportunity to be part of the Yatra in a teeny-tiny way when I hopped on to the truck being driven by Mr. Rukmuddin Khan Master Driver, BharatBenz, accompanied by two DICV officials. The slice of a trucker’s life that I witnessed was truly breathtaking.
Mr. Khan’s truck was already inching close to the 10,000 km mark and the brief ride from the BharatBenz dealership on the Nelamangala Road on NH 48 to the nearby location to embark on yet another remarkable interactive event with the local long-haul drivers was smooth.
Mr. Khan, who is based in Vapi, Gujarat, as the instructor, has been driving the truck since day one of the Yatra. Talking about the performance of the truck, he said:
“The beauty of this truck is that even after travelling close to 10,000 km during this Yatra, the fatigue is not there. It’s a safe vehicle to drive. We have travelled from northern India to southern India and I can say that the image of a trucker is surely changing albeit slowly. I feel it is the new generation which has a different perspective.”
Mr. Abdul Hamid Ansari, another Master Driver with BharatBenz, felt honored to drive the protagonist of the Yatra – the truck that crossed 10 lakh km in five years: “We have added another 10,000 km during this journey and I am yet to find a change in the engine noise.” Completely at ease with his role as the lead driver, Mr. Ansari advocates that no other truck comes close in comparison to BharatBenz trucks in giving more mileage with low maintenance needs.
