The last time we drove the Harrier, it felt a tad heavy off the line and it missed an important thing – an automatic gearbox, a must have in this segment of premium cars. The 2020 Tata Harrier with the BSVI engine gets more power and a true-blue automatic as well as some more goodies. Here is what we think.
What’s new?
First up is the panoramic sunroof, lined with a heat-resistant film. The cabin also gets an auto-dimming IRVM, 6-way power-adjustable driver seat and a more seamless (and reliable) connection with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for the 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment. The features list remains more or less similar, but safety systems like the ESP with Hill-hold, traction control, corner stability control with roll-over mitigation and rear parking sensors are now standard across trims.
On the outside, the most important change are the smaller wing mirrors, which claim better aerodynamic efficiency and impart lesser wind noise at highway speeds. The cosmetic updates include new chrome garnish on the grille, and two-tone diamond cut alloys (still 17-inch) that come shod with the 235/65 Apollo Apterra tyres.
BSVI and…
The Fiat-sourced Kryotec 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine is now BSVI compliant and finally gets the much awaited 170PS tune, while the torque output of 350Nm remains unchanged.
