This is the first time that Samsung has released two Note phones at the same time. Given that size (and a stylus) has always been the Note range’s raison d’être, we wanted to dig into the plus version, with its whopping 6.8-inch screen.
In terms of ergonomics, it turns out be a rather unwieldy slab of glass and metal. Purely for feel, the smaller Note10 (6.3 inches) fits much better in the hand, feeling smaller than its size suggests, thanks to a compact body.
Of course, there are huge benefits to a bigger screen – from watching films and box sets on your morning commute, to reading ebooks on a flight, to getting immersed in a game. It also makes for a much larger canvas for handwritten notes using the S Pen, helping you see and annotate more of a PDF or webpage without constantly having to scroll, and means the phone functions as a bigger trackpad when using DeX, Samsung’s desktop experience.
The expansive 6.8-inch AMOLED display on the Note10+ will handle all of that brilliantly, but after some extensive usage, carrying around this smartphone every single day definitely leads to storage and transportation compromises – pocket-friendly it ain’t.
As you’d expect from Samsung’s technical leader, the Note10+ has a very formidable specs sheet that reads more like a laptop’s than a phone’s. Powering the device is a new Exynos 9825 chip (that delivers faster speeds) and greater power management than the impressive Exynos 9820 inside the Galaxy S10 series.
That state-of-the-art silicon is coupled with 12GB of RAM and a choice of either 256GB or 512GB of built-in storage. Unlike the smaller Note10, the Note10+ does include a microSD slot, which can be used to add up to 1TB of additional storage.
