More often than not drivers are treated with indifference verging on rudeness when they visit firms and offices but, says Lucy Radley, there is one dealership that stands head and shoulders above the rest.
I sometimes get to test wagons, generally used ones, and what I’ve been doing recently is, to all intents and purposes, joyriding. There’s no set test route, and it’s all about ‘driving impressions’ rather than anything very technical.
You don’t need to look smart to get in a wagon and gratuitously burn diesel, so I usually roll up in some variation on jeans and a tee-shirt. My husband, also an ex-driver and now working from home, recently refused to let me out in my favourite combat trousers to drive a Scania but next time around he was away, so out they came. Slap on the steel-toe-capped boots I always drive trucks in (thanks former employer, they’re lasting beautifully) and a hoody and I looked remarkably similar to when I last visited this particular dealership, well over five years ago, with an ailing 57-plate FH13.
