The Goldhofer Faktor 5 allows heavy haulage operator Allelys to carry a payload of five times the girder frame trailer’s own weight. Here is the heavy mob in action

Max Faktor

In 2014, Warwickshire-based Allelys Group took delivery of a new girder frame trailer from Goldhofer – the Faktor 5, referring to the fact that it is capable of carrying a payload of five times its own weight.

Formed in 1959 by Maurice Allely, the Allelys Group originally transported livestock but diversified and grew into a leading heavy lift transportation and installation services provider.

For many years the firm has been associated with the road transport of trains and rolling stock, using its fleet of specially designed trailers. However, the Goldhofer Faktor 5 has a rather different function.

It is the third girder frame operated by Allelys, all of them manufactured by Goldhofer at its factory in Memmingen, Germany. Girder frame trailers allow exceptionally heavy loads such as electrical generating equipment, cable reels and castings to be safely carried on public roads. The trailer will typically operate with payloads of 240-350 tonnes, although it has the capability to carry up to 500.

Modular construction

Due to its modular construction, the Faktor 5 can be configured according to the size and weight of the cargo. It can also be dismantled and carried in shipping containers for rapid deployment in remote regions, should this ever be necessary. The trailer runs on two sets of Goldhofer axles, ranging from 10 at either end up to 20, depending upon gross weights, to spread the overall ground pressure applied to the road surface.
