In the last issue we reported on a potential problem relating to leisure batteries fitted to post build conversions on Blue Motion T5s and all T6s. After further investigation we are happy to bring you our findings

We spoke to people within the industry and found Colin Humphrey of Campervan Parts particularly clued up, due in no small part I’m sure, to the fact that his company sell a solution for this potentially dangerous issue.

So let’s start with the problem, as we understand it. Firstly, it does not apply to genuine VW Californias, it applies to all late model Blue Motion T5s and all T6s not equipped with a leisure battery as standard from new. The problem stems from the fact that all these vehicles are fitted with a regenerative braking system as part of their latest Euro spec compliant package, which enables the manufacturer to achieve lower emissions and greater fuel efficiency.
